J.S. Bach wrote an “intonation in F major” to accompany six of these pieces copied from Giovanni Battista Bassani. Bach’s BWV 233–236 are four of these pieces that each last about 20 minutes, one of which adapts his Es wartet alles auf dich (“ess VAR-tut ALL-us owf deesh”). The first section of one of these pieces includes a five-part fugue, then a duet, then an F-sharp minor four-part fugue.
