Several hundred ceremonial jars that originated in this region were found at a site whose abundance of pottery sherds led it to be named the “Mother of Pots.” This region's supposed wealth is represented by a fictional chief who boils milk in one text. The longest hieroglyphic inscription depicts a battle in this region, which is the most northerly battle depicted at Medinet Habu. The title advisor of a ruler of this region returns to his homeland to die in The (*) Story of Sinuhe. Khor (10[1])and Retjenu were Egyptian names for this original homeland of the Hyksos. The Amarna Letters show that this region's city-states were split between clients of Egypt and of Mitanni during the New Kingdom.
