One fourteenth-century annal describes how after a siege of this city in the tenth century, a king seized “the sword of Carlus” and the “ring of Tomar”. It has been argued that links between this city, Chester, and York created a “small world phenomenon”, with one dynasty attempting for three generations to rule them all. After being expelled from this city by an alliance including the king of Brega in 902, a concentrated settlement was formed in this city when the descendants of (*) Ivar returned. A number of warrior burials, such as one excavated at South Great George’s Street, have been linked with the foundation of a Viking naval camp at this city’s site, recorded in the 841 entry of the Annals of Ulster. Named for a dark tidal (10[1])pool, for 10 points, name this city at the mouth of the River Liffey which (10[1])became the (10[1])largest in Ireland. ■END■
