This region contains the Southern part of the Arid Diagonal. Several salt lakes in this region are among the lowest in the world, such as its “coal lagoon” at 105 meters below sea level. This region’s Cave of the Hands contains hundreds of stenciled rock (-5[1])art works. This region’s highest (-5[1])peak, Mount Fitz Roy, is located in the vicinity of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Flightless birds (-5[1])called rheas (10[1])are native to this region as are relatives of the llama called the guanaco.
