This instrument accompanies the aria “Parto, parto, ma tu, ben mio” from La Clemenza di Tito. Ravel remarked that he wrote the slow movement of his G major piano concerto while “under the spell” of the Larghetto from a Mozart chamber piece that features this instrument. In the Adagio movement of a concerto for this instrument, the soloist enters immediately with the notes [read slowly] “A, long D [pause], F-sharp F-sharp E D.” This instrument joins viola and piano in Mozart’s (*) “Kegelstatt” trio.
