This is the first title concept of an essay that analyzes Meridel Le Sueur’s novel The Girl as a study of “double-life” and uses Kathleen Gough’s list of eight characteristics of male power as a framework. A term for the imposition of this concept was popularized by Michael Warner, the author of The Trouble with Normal.
