The coda of the presto finale of the sixth of these pieces slows to più moderato for a virtuosic keyboard solo that the composer played at its premiere. Near the end of the slow movement of the first of these pieces, both bassoons play a loud low C representing a fart. At the premiere of one of these pieces, the audience apocryphally crowded near the stage and were unharmed when a chandelier fell behind them. The success of these pieces ruined a rival concert series featuring their composer’s student, Ignaz Pleyel. The impresario Johann Peter Salomon commissioned these pieces in two sets from 1791 to 1794, and some of them are nicknamed “Miracle,” “Military,” and “Surprise.” For 10 points, name these last twelve symphonies by Franz Joseph Haydn that premiered in a European capital. ■END■
