In an odd fragmentary inscription that’s now at the Met, an unidentified Egyptian god is called the “lord of [these animals’] town.” In an Egyptian myth, these animals are created when a different animal drinks from a sacred lake. One of these animals with its offspring represented the [emphasize] return of the Faraway Goddess. The name of an Egyptian deity to whom these animals were sacred may represent that deity’s association with ointment (15[1])jars.
