Kudurru boundary stones depicting the city of Der’s tutelary god Ištaran show the messenger Nirah as one of these animals. Two of these animals appear in the symbol of the vegetation deity Ningishzida. The inscription to Marduk on the Ishtar Gate of Babylon describes the joining of a bull and this animal. One of Ninurta’s “Slain Heroes” is sometimes identified with the Mušmaḫḫū in the praise poem Angim, a (10[1])(*) seven-headed one of these animals.
